1. The Islamic Society of Boston University (yours truly) is proud to present Islam Awareness Week 2011 from Monday, March 21st, 2011 to Friday, March 25th, 2011! Here’s the line-up of events:
Monday, March 21st, 2011:
What: Islamophobia lecture by Dr. Stephen Prothero. Dr. Prothero is a professor of Religion at Boston University specializing in American religions. He is also a world renowned author who has made numerous appearances on television and radio shows such as, The Colbert Report.
Where: Boston University College of Communications, 640 Commonwealth Avenue, Room 101
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011:
What: The talks on Islamophobia continue with a student-led discussion panel on Islamophobia, proctored by Professor Eckel of Boston University.
Where: George Sherman Union, 775 Commonwealth Avenue, Backcourt
Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011:
What: A film screening of ‘Bilal’s Stand.’ The film revolves around Bilal, a Muslim high school senior, who works at his family’s long-owned taxi stand. “The Stand,” as they call it, had been the source of all activity and money for Bilal’s family for the last sixty years. It seems like Bilal is about to carry on the torch; however, he secretly submits a college application and takes up the art of ice carving in order to win a scholarship.
Bilal is ultimately forced to decide whether he will continue working at the Stand – the only life he’s ever known – or take a chance at social mobility.

Thursday, March 24th, 2011:
What: Join the brothers and sisters of BU as we pray Maghrib in Marsh Plaza for the world to watch. After a two year hiatus, ISBU is proud to bring back this demonstration as a means of increasing awareness of Muslim prayer.
Where: Marsh Plaza, 735 Commonwealth Avenue, directly in front of Marsh Chapel.
Friday, March 25th, 2011:
What: Poetic Visions Tour is coming to Boston University! PVT artists are a group of talented brothers and sisters who perform original work, inspired by the richest elements of the Islamic tradition, through a fusion of spiritually-inspired folk-rock music and hip-hop poetry. In addition, PVT is also famous for performing positive and poetically rich cover songs from artists such as: Coldplay (Viva la Vida), Jason Mraz (I’m Yours), Cat Stevens (Father and Son), Bob Marley (Redemption Song), the Beatles (Here Comes the Sun), Bob Dylan (Knocking on Heaven’s Door), and many more!

2. MSA National and the Boston Organizing Committee are proud to present MSA National East Zone Conference 2011. The conference is being held from April 1st, 2011 to April 3rd, 2011 at the Boston Marriot Cambridge located at 2 Cambridge Center, 50 Broadway, Cambridge, MA.
From featuring some of the most prestigious speakers of the Muslim world to a heated basketball tournament to a flourishing bazaar, this conference has it all and you don’t want to miss out!
