MIT MSA’s Discover Islam Series October 2011

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

The MIT MSA Executive Committee would like to invite ISBU to their upcoming Discover Islam Series this October. Through this series, they aim to enlighten the Boston area non-Muslim and Muslim community on various aspects of Islam. Their events will cover a broad range of topics such as science and technology in Islam, Islamic art and poetry, and civil rights in Islam, so insha’Allah there is something that will appeal to all.

According to a 2010 ABC News/Washington Post poll, only 37% of Americans have a favorable opinion of Islam, the lowest rating since 2001. And according to the Pew Research Center, at the end of 2010, 45% of Americans shared the view that Islam is at odds with American values. However, statistics also support that Americans who know Muslims are significantly less likely to hold these views.

Remember, Dawah is an obligation upon all Muslims. Allah (SWT) says in the Quran, “Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue [debate] with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.” (16:125)
